WRI’s assessment
The Philippines Logistics Growth Index eased to 48.1 in September, slipping 0.5 points as 7 sub-indices signaled contraction. The decline was primarily driven by deteriorating transportation conditions and softening goods for sale, reflecting severe port disruptions and a consumer shift toward essentials amid accelerating inflation and currency depreciation.

“Disrupted ports and cancelled sailings were the biggest drag in September, cutting available capacity, while faster-rising prices led households to focus their spending on essentials. Warehousing was a rare bright spot, with e-commerce operators still taking up space.”
