What the Logistics Index tells you

What 50 means

A diffusion reading: 50 is no change on the prior month. Above 50, activity is expanding; below 50, contracting — the distance from 50 is the strength of the move.

What it leads

Diffusion indexes turn before hard trade and output data, which arrive with a lag. The reading is an early, comparable signal of momentum in goods movement.

Who relies on it

Supply-chain and logistics leaders, macro and rates desks, trade bodies and policymakers — reading global momentum before the official trade and output data prints.
