WRI’s assessment
Italy’s Logistics Growth Index eased to 50.5 in September, slipping 0.5 points and falling below its three-month average of 50.8. The deceleration was primarily driven by the Business Volume Index, which exerted the greatest downward pressure, alongside a sharp pullback in business sentiment, as plunging consumer confidence and reignited inflation fears dampened domestic demand while external trade momentum weakened.
“Italian logistics lost momentum in September: weaker foreign trade and softer retail sales held back business volumes, and a sharp rise in energy costs revived inflation worries and hit confidence. Warehouse leasing held firm, and the sector is still marginally expanding.”
