WRI’s assessment
The Hong Kong Logistics Growth Index advanced to 52.5 in September, up 0.4 points from the prior month, propelled by surging merchandise export volumes and robust transportation activity. Strong external demand for high-tech goods and electronics sustained freight movements, while accelerating retail sales further supported goods movement.
“Exports did the heavy lifting in September, with overseas buyers keeping up their demand for electronics, and the port was busy as regional transit bottlenecks redirected freight through Hong Kong. Hiring, however, slowed.”
