WRI’s assessment
Egypt’s Logistics Growth Index edged up to 48.2 in September 2026, a 0.6-point monthly gain that lifted the reading above its three-month average, though the index remained in contraction territory. The improvement was primarily driven by the Business Volume and Transportation indices, which benefited from a sharp recovery in canal transits and regularized traffic flows, partially offsetting severe contractions in private sector output and new orders.
“Canal and vessel traffic was sharply up on a year earlier, lifting Egypt’s logistics reading in September. It remained in contraction, though, with inflation and a weak currency still eroding what consumers can afford.”
