WRI’s assessment
Brazil’s Logistics Growth Index slipped to 49.5 in September, a 0.9-point decline that pulled the reading below its three-month average. The contraction was primarily driven by a sharp deterioration in business volume and a drop in business sentiment, as goods-producing activity weakened and companies curtailed investment amid election uncertainty and high borrowing costs.
“Record cargo kept Brazil’s ports busy in September, but the logistics reading still slipped into contraction: underlying freight volumes pulled back as goods production weakened, and business confidence is very low.”
