WRI’s assessment
The Philippines Logistics Growth Index fell to 47.9 in May, a decline of 4.3 points, as severe port congestion and eroding consumer purchasing power dragged the market to last place in regional rankings. The contraction was primarily driven by a sharp drop in transport capacity, where surging berth delays and declining vessel calls overwhelmed growing cargo volumes, alongside a steep contraction in business sentiment as forward-looking optimism failed to offset record-low current confidence.
