WRI’s assessment

Japan’s Logistics Growth Index eased to 50.6 in May 2026, slipping 0.7 points as capacity constraints offset robust domestic demand. The decline was primarily driven by a contraction in transportation, where surging export volumes for advanced goods were undermined by broader container volume declines, alongside a deepening contraction in transport capacity stemming from structural driver shortages.
