WRI’s assessment
Australia’s Logistics Growth Index slipped to 48.5 in May 2026, down 0.4 points from the prior month, as geopolitical freight disruptions and soft domestic demand weighed on activity. The contraction was primarily driven by the Transportation and Business Volume indices, which fell sharply amid surging ocean freight costs, elevated geopolitical risk premiums, and weakening underlying trade sales.
